Educational day care center for minors

The Centro Diurno Educativo per Minori (CDEM) (Educational Day Center for Minors) is a semiresidential service aimed primarily at minors in charge of the Social and Health Services of the territorial area in which the facility itself is located.
The facility is located in via De Gasperi n. 45 in Bedizzole (BS).
The CDEM represents a secondary prevention intervention, implemented as a result of a personal or family distress already manifested: the function of the CDEM is to support the sending Services and the child's family in a path of gradual re-entry or exit from the nucleus itself, through the implementation of meaningful and evolutionary relationships for the child.
The educational project built together with the person concerned envisages the constant involvement of the family, offering both parties educational support that avoids a clear uprooting from the nucleus of origin and the context of origin, in collaboration with the social, cultural and associative bodies and entities present and operating in the territory.
The CDEM, moreover, stands specifically as a resource for the reception of minors on whom criminal proceedings weigh heavily: in a phase as critical, delicate and decisive as that of probation, this Service wants to offer an opportunity for redemption through the rediscovery of personal skills and aptitudes, that is, trying to bring out new desires and ambitions that foster the subject's self-determination away from experiences of deviance.

Target audience

CDEM welcomes minors between the ages of 12 and 17, regardless of gender, economic status, nationality, ethnicity, religion and different abilities (except in particularly serious situations that require placement in specific health or therapeutic services or facilities).

Given the differentiation of needs in such a large target group, when necessary, it was considered to diversify the interventions to two different age groups, namely 12-13 and 14-17 years, with the aim of giving more appropriate and specific responses to a group with similar needs and characteristics.

These are preadolescents and adolescents with prevalent problems of:

  • Psycho-social distress
  • Family difficulties (conflict, separation and other significant critical issues in the family unit)
  • Managing relationships with the adult, peers or institutions of reference
  • Managing emotions and impulses
  • Fragilities that induce excessive and/or dangerous and/or deviant behavior
  • School deficiencies

The duration of placement at CDEM is a minimum of 6 months, extendable variable according to each user's educational project.
